Viewpoint is an informational campaign and offers a way for students to engage and learn about the concept of evolving identity and the theory of habitus. The students' awareness of themselves would ideally influence their awareness and understanding of others, allowing my audience to become more empathetic and tolerant.

Why Viewpoint?

High-school-age students are just beginning to gain their sense of self and understand others. With Viewpoint,
they can become informed and realize that other people do not experience, perceive, or have the same life
experiences as they do with the introduction to the theory of Habitus which is

“The lens which the unconscious mind uses to perceive and filter the world, by combining past and present
experiences inherently affecting one’s perception of the world”
(Pierre Boudreau).

In short, the aim of Viewpoint is to help young adults understand that their identity is not "fixed" and is constantly
evolving from every new experience.

Design Process

Prior to designing Viewpoint, I researched Habitus and used Anthropology, Sociology, and Adolescent Development & Psychology to guide my research.
These lenses allow me to look at different aspects of human identity and development. Whether it was human nature itself through Anthropology,
or how groups interact through Sociology. (See Process Book for Citations)

It was significant to understand my audience and how they develop, and what developmental stage(s) they are in, so I can communicate effectively. Lastly, it was important to also study the theory of Habitus, and understand it myself. That way
I could successfully translate and process the information to be understandable
to my younger audience.

Plan of Action/Concept Map

To help visualize and organize my thoughts and concepts, I designed a concept map to determine what my end goals are as well as appropriate design outcomes for my audience.

Mark Process

Featured below is the design process and thinking I went through when designing the mark, you can see the color palette changes and how my design & thought process leads to the final mark.

The idea of the mark was to capture change and layers by using different colors, showing movement, and using fluid shapes.

Website Process

When designing for the website, I had a few different ideas and paths I could follow, but the main concept was to provide students with access to research and more information behind Viewpoint.

At first, I considered making a forum or blog-inspired website that students can access and use for resources and share their stories or advice. In the end, I decided against this path as I was concerned about potential bullying and other issues. I chose to make a website that offers more in-depth information behind Habitus and Viewpoints. Additionally, I wanted to provide access to citation links and research suggestions for student's who are interested in researching Habitus more in-depth.

Instagram Asset Process

When designing the Instagram assets, it was important to create designs that were branded yet relatable and shareable. I also wanted to encourage discussion and student interaction within the grid post's comments.

I chose to not use these designs and instead use less colorful, simplified
designs with more information. I also wanted to focus on the individual pieces
of the mark.

Final Outcomes

The final deliverables for Viewpoint are a website with mobile design in mind, the importance of simplicity but remaining interesting is significant as to not overwhelm my audience, but still keep them interested. Additionally, an Instagram page will allow students to directly interact with the information, discuss it, and share it.

Website Assets

The final website acts as a way for students to access more information about Viewpoint and Habitus than what is found on the Instagram page. Additionally, there is a "Learn" page that provides further information and research citations.

Instagram Assets & Mock-up

The Instagram page will link directly to the website as they will pair well together, the website acts as a “one-stop” spot for students (or anyone) to access more information about identity, Habitus, and research behind Viewpoint!
