This publication was created to merge two different pieces of writing,
I chose to use Lupine Lady by Barbara Cooney and this article about African Dark Earth.
Flowers&Roots merges these two types in a way that they begin as two different voices, but eventually merge and become rooted together as the publication goes on.
Below are the first storyboards I designed when beginning to figure out how to successfully intertwine the two texts I used for this publication.
Below are the first spread concepts I explored as played around with the treatment of typography. Whether that was exploring spacing through kerning and letting or exploring the disruption of type with roots.
A preview of what Flowers/Roots would look like when printed, ideally it would be a flat-lay booklet to showcase
the design details on each spread.
